So, how do I actually find food for my mantises?
Some of you deviants (of course - who else...) asked me precisely that question, which I'm going to answer now, and simultaneously pay a little tribute to one of my favourite cartoonists.
OK, so usually I order the "food items" from an online store, it's so dull I'm not going to go into details, such as for instance how the post woman reacts to a parcel with obvious audible signs of rich internal live. I've learned to ignore the looks she gives me.
Instead, I want to present you a character I sympathize with (but NOT identify with - I mean, c'mon!) whenever the right season and weather conditions allow me to go into field and collect some natural snacks for my pets.
Meet Jimmy the Idiot.
Insert “mantises” instead of “turtles” and here ya go.
Mmmm... Bugalicious...
Bring them on! Ladybugs suppose to taste funny – never fed them to my mantises.
The fact is, this short comic story - Jimmy the Turtle Food Collector - comes into my mind whenever I perform my little insect hunting. That’s how I imagine I look like for an ignorant observer.

If at first you don't succeed, say to hell with it and hire someone ..lol
It is not unusual to find an occasional mantis here where I live. I kept one alive for quite awhile one year, by catching moths and things for her to eat.
At any rate, I look forward to seeing more!

It's virtually impossible to find any mantises in my area - I buy most of them from German breeders, all the exotic ones are captive-bred. I
Catching moths and things - this journal entry is dedicated for people like you!
So funny, buying live stuff through the post for your mantises (however it is spelt)
I wish you and your mantises many happy times and, um, strange looks from the postal person?
God bless.
