Artist's Comments
A green lacewing (Chrysoperla rufilabris) larva head, a projection of confocal stack collected with Olympus confocal laser scanning microscope. Muscles are shown in blue, tiny brain burried between them visible in the midde of the image. Mandibles serve as hypodermic needles injecting digestive juices into aphids; the larva uses them as a straw to suck dissolved innards of the prey.
