Artist's Comments

My pets grew while I was away on the Papua trip; my girlfriend was taking really good care of them.

A Dead-leaf mantis, Deroplatys lobata, an adult female.

I really like her look, as if she was saying .... "heeeyyyy... sexy.." :D

Where do you get the beige (bottom) and the grey (backdrop) from? studio setup? If so, how do you set it up like that.. looks great.

:D aye, mantises can strike surprisingly anthropomorphic moses!

OK, here's my secret: I'm using a uniformly white, large piece of paper as a backdrop. It's slightly bend so the top and bottom are at 90 deg. angle. It is a kind of cheap-as studio, the good think about it is I can take it wherever I go with me and set it up in just a few minutes.

The soft color gradients are added in post-processing. I'm using mainly the Render/Lighting effects filter in PS.
